UK ENGAGE PROVIDES SERVICES FOR MULTIPLE CONTESTS FOR THE ROYAL CHARTERED MAGISTRATES ASSOCIATION

Expert account management and a range of voting solutions results in newly elected Deputy Chairs and Trustees for the Magistrates Association.

Client:

The Magistrates Association exists to influence key decision-makers, support its members in administering the law, and educate people about the role of magistrates. Operating under its Royal Charter granted in 1962, it is the independent voice of magistrates in England and Wales. Founded in 1920 the Magistrates Association has grown from a small group into the representative voice of the magistracy today, with nearly 14,000 members.

Democratic Project:

As a member-led association, the Magistrates Association needed to handle internal democracy with the utmost impartiality and transparency. That’s why, when the Deputy Chair and the Board of Trustee elections were due, UK Engage was appointed to run its contests. Working closely with the Chief Executive, UK Engage developed a multi-channel voting solution for the Magistrates Association, so that its eligible electorate of nearly 14,400 members could vote in the contests.

Solution:

Members were given the option to vote by post or online in the Deputy Chair & Trustee elections. Ballot packs were designed by our in-house design team and our specialist online department built an online voting site for the two contests. Members were able to read about the  candidates for election in their postal packs and online. Those using the online channel were also able to watch candidates’ video statements, via our online election platform. To encourage votes part way through the election, a reminder postcard and email were sent to eligible voting members.

Results

All eligible seats were filled, as a result the Magistrates Association has newly elected Deputy Chairs and Trustees to help lead the association.  The online voting platform proved popular for both contests with approximately 69% of votes coming from online voting in the Deputy Chair and Trustee elections.

The information they provided was clear and comprehensive, our account manager could not have been more helpful and members reported that voting was quick and easy.
